Harvest MusingsFinally, the coolness of post-Lammas has arrived here in The Pacific
Northwest! Yesterday was pleasant enough to settle on the back porch and process the seed heads, bulbs
and herbs gathered at the height of the July heat wave. Thank You, Habondia!
This morning's walk
garnered some lovely Broad-leaf Plantain (Plantago major) seed heads to join the Swordleaf (P. lanceolata)baggie collected
last week. And Curly Dock (Rumex crispus). And wonder of wonders, I've located a pair of intrepid
St John's Worts (Hypericum perforatum) still blooming merrily away in a spot I would not have expected--a location
fraught with vulnerability to destruction--so I cast a small Circle of Protection for their welfare. Several
brave, tender green seed pods are developing. I plan to return every few days to strengthen the defenses and
encourage their maturation. When the time comes and I can collect a few precious seeds to return to my garden, I will also
scatter the rest in a safer spot nearby. Blessings Be upon You.
Today it is definitely cool
enough indoors to sit at the blending bench and work on some new formulations I've had in mind. There are also
labels to design for a couple of anointing blends that are ready for their debut.
A friend in radiation
treatment for a lung tumor is coming over this afternoon to get a recharge on her personal inhaler for her long-standing
asthma/emphysema symptoms.
Heck, maybe later I'll even have the energy to discreetly shake my rainstick--gentle encouragement
to the cloud people: If it Harm None, Please end our 78-day drought.
What are you up to this week?
