Flower petals lovingly folded into a packet, leaves crumbled into
a cauldron releasing sweet aromas, twigs collected under the waxing Long Snows Moon, seeds tucked into eggshells
at Oestara... All these are examples of the vastly myriad ways we can use herbs in our craft and spellwork.
Of all the tools used in the pagan/wiccan worlds, herbal majicks are probably the most ubuquitous. And
in the modern world, a close knowledge of basic attributes of even commonly known herbs seems to be just as mysterious
as the most arcane niceties of ritual etiquette.
I recommend that you have at least one or two herbals in your library. Read them. Randomly
if you must, only read them, please. Do not allow your knowledge to be crippled by slavishly following spell 'recipes'.
Understand the plants' properties and you will understand what to use when. And while building your reference
library, include books on the medicinal uses of herbs as well as those devoted to the cultivation of herbs.
Eventually your knowledge will be far more complete than if you'd only learned of a portion of their
gifts. Grow some, and learn to find them in the wild~~your relationship with the Devas will truely be based on
'firm ground'.
